The Power of Gratitude

Gratitude has become somewhat of a buzz word in this mental health day and age and honestly, I think that’s a great thing! While it’s not the solution to all of our problems, it definitely nudges us in the right direction of a good mindset shift at times.

What is gratitude?

Gratitude is the act of being thankful for someone or something

Why is gratitude important?

Gratitude is important because practicing it keeps us in a better, more positive state of mind. It’s also just generally important to practice because it can have positive effects on ourselves and others as well. For example, say you practice gratitude by writing your friend a nice letter of appreciation. They get to reap the benefits of gratitude too, then! Gratitude is also important to help us appreciate what we have.

How to practice gratitude

  1. Write a note/text/card to or call someone you love and tell them why you love them
  2. Journal about a few things you’re grateful for
  3. Keep a running gratitude list
  4. Meditate on gratitude
  5. Perform an act of kindness

Hope you feel inspired to practice gratitude! Remember, have an “I get to” rather than an “I have to” mentality and good things will come your way.
